My yoga path began in my early fifties. At the time I knew that since I was getting older, I needed to find some exercise that was low-impact, weight-bearing, strength-building and most importantly, enjoyable. I had read a magazine article that featured the musician Sting and his yoga practice. Sting was my original inspiration for taking yoga classes starting in 2008. I have since discovered that yoga is a lot more than physical exercise. It can support the mind and spirit in addition to the body.
I earned my first teacher training certification in 2018. Since that time, I've studied with Jennifer Reis of Kripalu Center earning a Level II certification in Divine Sleep® Yoga Nidra. I've also studied with master teachers Karin Stephan and Larissa Carlson.
While I am not a yoga therapist, I've trained in therapeutic practices of yoga for osteoporosis, insomnia, anxiety, weight loss, scoliosis, and rotator cuff injuries, with Dr. Loren Fishman, M.D. I hold a certification in Yoga for Bone Health.
I am certified by Carol Krucoff and Kimberly Carson in Yoga for Seniors. This approach to yoga was created at Duke Medical Center's Integrative Health program.
I've had teacher training in accessibility and inclusivity with international yoga teacher and former professional athlete Laia Bové.
I am a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-500) having had advanced training at the Lotus Pond in Tampa, FL with superb teachers Val Spies, Melissa Carroll, and Manasa Kinithi among others.
