Chakras

The chakras are a part of the subtle body. This article is an overview of the seven chakras. In coming weeks, I will break them down for you in more detail.

That is, they are circles of energy with touchpoints that run together throughout the body. Understanding these subtle energy centers may give you a deeper understanding for the wholeness of your life. This wholeness integrates your mind, body and spirit. There are seven main chakras in all. The concepts of the chakras are a bit more higher level that the concepts of the physical body in which we engage with our yoga poses.

Chakras are organizing centers of your own life force and energies. They act as a coordinating network for the complicated system of the mind and body. (Judith, 2017)

The Sanskrit word chakra literally translates to wheel. These wheels are at the intersection of the energy centers within the body. The seven chakras together comprise an integrated system of wholeness that provides you with tools for personal growth. By doing specific yoga postures, meditations, breathing we have the power to balance our own chakras.

Starting at the root chakra we find a place that grounds you to the earth. That is it involves your buttocks, tailbone, and legs.

The sacral chakra can be found in the pelvic area up to the low tummy. Moving up through the body the solar plexus is the location from the belly button to the low ribs. The heart chakra is at the center of it all and of course is located in the heart, the lungs and the sternum. The throat chakra is found in the neck by the throat. The third eye chakra can be found at the in the forehead and between the brows. Lastly, the wisdom chakra is found at the crown of the head. Each of these chakras as a function which I will get into in the coming weeks.

In the coming weeks we will get into a lot more depth where I will explain how to balance each of these energy centers.

Yoga Nidra Tonight: Yoga Nidra for Pets!

As always, Yoga Nidra will be held on Zoom tonight at 7:30 EDT. If you want to relieve stress and/or get a good night's sleep, please sign up. I continue to offer Yoga Nidra on a sliding scale. Interestingly, those who have brought their pets to the practice have found it to be very soothing for themselves and their pets!

Private Lessons for the Vaccinated

For those who are vaccinated against Covid, I offer private lessons at your location. Contact me directly (see the form at the bottom of these website pages), so that we can come up with the best date and times to work into your schedule. Many are seeking private lessons as we come out of our long socially distanced lives. A private lesson can get you back to more comfort in your body as you seek to readjust to the "real world" after the stresses of the lock down.
