I'm Home!

It is so wonderful to be home. I had a truly superb experience in Europe. It was my first time to that continent and it lived up to all its hype. I saw all the prime things to see and things off the beaten path too. The highlight among many was Michelangelo's famous statue of David. No replica or photo can do justice to this detailed study of the human body in action. The statue depicts David getting his weapon ready to slay Goliath. It is an amazing piece of artwork done in retrospect. (Yes. Think about it. Michelangelo lived about 2500 years after the biblical David!)

Yoga and David

What does a bible character have to do with yoga? David had only a slingshot and stones to kill the giant, but did it anyway and arrived at victory. This statue shows not just his physical strength, but also inner fortitude and spirituality. Without both he would probably not have been very successful in his goal.

In yoga, we work to develop both our inner and outer strength. Asana practice is for outer fortitude where we prepare the body for inner meditation. It is in deep meditation where we can find the inner strength to slay the giant distractions in our lives.
