Sense Memory. May schedule. The Gift of Yoga
Laurie Tenzer | MAY 3, 2021

It's May! Personally, it is my favorite month of the year. So many friends and family having birthdays this month, mine included! May is the time when we REALLY notice it is spring. When I was a young girl growing up in New York, the lilacs came into bloom in May. I loved their fresh scent as I ran up or down the steps of our front stoop. That sense memory makes me think why I love the color purple so much. It's the color of most lilacs!
In my years in Hawaii, May for me was the time that pikake (jasmine), puakenikeni, and gardenia bloomed profusely with their intense fragrances. I consider these as my birthday flowers and always loved receiving a fragrant multi-strand pikake lei for my birthday! To me, pikake is the smell of true happiness.
Here in Florida, May brings the sweet fragrance of magnolias, plumeria and others that I have not yet learned about. Do you have any sense memories that continue for you? Do you have a sense memory that makes you feel really good when you touch that area in your memory bank or heart? Sense memory can make for an excellent meditation focus by tapping into that wonderful sense that has helped you to feel good.
A sense memory can be a smell, a sound, a taste. That is, anything that you take in through your 5 senses and store somewhere deep within your mind.

May is also the month of Memorial Day that will occur on Monday 5/31 this year. The schedule will remain the same on that holiday.
Yoga Nidra: Destress and Improve Sleep
Weekly Yoga Nidra continues online on Mondays at 7:30 pm.
The dates are:
5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/24, 5/31.
On May 19 at 7:00 pm I will hold a 90-minute online Yoga Nidra workshop. Explore the background and history of Yoga Nidra and why it seems to work for insomnia, stress-relief, PTSD and other ailments. The workshop is appropriate for anyone who wants to learn more.
Yoga is a gift that we can treasure and hold as we journey internally through our bodies, minds, and spirits. Yoga is the gift of seeking within the self. Giving this gift to others is called karma yoga. According to The Bhagavad Gita, karma yoga is the selfless action or service that benefits others. It is why I am so grateful to have the ability to share yoga with others and be a guide in your personal journey.
May also brings us Mother's Day! Give your Mom, yourself, or other significant person in your life, the gift of yoga. This month, I have a special Mother's Day BOGO package. Purchase a private online session for yourself and/or Mom. My teaching is always tailored to your needs and these private lessons give customized attention to the specifics that you need. Click on packages on the website menu and select BOGO Private Online Yoga: Mother's Day Gift. As with all my packages, there is an option for gifting this limited time special. Book a private lesson here.
